Case Study: Modernising Bell & Paging

The Challenge

Cotswold Matahae is a big site: six teaching blocks, a library, a hall, and plenty of outdoor space, and the old bell system just couldn’t keep up. There was no way to page a single classroom or block without alerting the whole school, no easy way to adjust the schedule for a mufti day or assembly, and nothing in place to trigger a fast, school-wide alert if something went wrong. The school needed a system that could talk to every corner of the site, but still give staff fine control over who hears what and when.

 

Our Solution

We designed and integrated a Zycoo IP-based bell and paging system for the school, with a Zycoo IAS-L100 audio server and an X210 paging phone in the office acting as the hub. From there, staff can run the daily bell schedule, make one-off announcements, or page individual rooms, all from one simple point of control.

 

The rollout covered the whole site:

 

  • The office, as the central hub for daily bells, paging, and background music

  • Every classroom across the six teaching blocks, fitted with wall speakers that also allow two-way calls back to the office

  • Break-out rooms and staff offices, with intercoms suited to smaller spaces

  • The hall, with a higher-output horn speaker for assemblies and events

  • The library and its meeting room, with their own dedicated coverage

  • The grounds, with weatherproof outdoor horn speakers extending paging and emergency alerts beyond the buildings

Everything runs over the school’s own network infrastructure, giving the system room to grow as needs change.

What the system gives the school

  • Paging to a single classroom, a whole block, or the entire school

  • An automated bell schedule that’s easy to override for non-standard days

  • A one-touch emergency alarm for fast, school-wide alerts

  • Two-way calling between classrooms and the office

  • Bluetooth music playback for breaks and events

  • A mobile app so staff can page or raise an alarm even when they’re away from their desk

The Outcome

Cotswold Matahae now has one connected system doing the job that used to take a mix of bells, intercoms and manual announcements: daily bells, school-wide paging, two-way classroom communication, and emergency alerts, all working together. It’s given the school far more flexibility day to day, and a system that can keep expanding alongside its needs.
